Caspar will be making a unique and exciting written record of this extraordinary expedition. There will be a short regular bulletin sent via satellite from the coral ark location. To subscribe to the bulletins send an email to subscribe@as4.co.uk requesting the subscription & stating the email address to send it to.
Subscription to the bulletins is free, but please, if you can, make a small donation to support this work. Send a cheque payable for GB £1, £5, £10 or whatever you can afford to: Grain of Sand Ltd. , 81 Percy Street, Oxford OX4 3AD, United Kingdom. Donations in US dollars can be made in a cheque payable to Prof. Rebecca Henderson, Room E52-543, 50 Memorial Drive, Cambridge MA 02142, USA.
Saya 2002 is an expedition on a shoestring. It receives no funding from corporations, tax-evading or otherwise, and is too 'far out' for many conservation charities. One of Caspar's jobs is to raise awareness of this amazing work so that any lessons learnt can be developed effectively in future. He will be writing articles for mainstream press in the UK, US but will not come near covering his costs. Quite simply, donations made via this site will make it possible to bring an account one of the most extraordinary things happening on the planet this year to life for thousands of people.
You may ask: "Let me get this straight. You're asking me to send money to support some character to go off to the middle of the Indian Ocean and write about building a coral reef?" Yes, that's right.
A note on privacy: the names of subscribers to the bulletins will kept entirely confidential. They will not be disclosed or passed on to anyone else.
There will be about three bulletins a week from around 26 Feb to 21 March. But note: the experiment is taking place in a remote area not well covered by satellites. Transmission may be sporadic, and it cannot be guaranteed that all bulletins will be sent on schedule.
Subscribers will also receive a final account of the expedition after it is over if they would like to do so. This will sum up achievements, lessons learnt and next steps. And subscribers will get a big thank you! This web site will also contain a note of where other articles are to be published.
In the unlikely event that a surplus is generated, it will be donated to Sun and Sea EV, a charity that will support ongoing work and measurement at the Saya de Malha coral ark. The main funder of Saya 2002 is the Lighthouse Foundation.
